Meet Our Sunday School – Youth Group
The Sunday School Youth Group is designed for age 11 -14+ and meets in the Vestry every week. Over the past two years, we have seen more families and their children coming to the Sunday Service. The youths are brilliant and open in sharing their thoughts, which always brought about insightful discussions for everyone in the room.
Deepening Our Youths’ Faith
With a mind to support young people transitioning into their teenage years, the Youth Group explores faith more deeply. We encourage personal reflection and discussion in the weekly sessions, as well as joining community engagement from time to time.
We use lessons published by Energize (Urban Saints). The one-hour session usually starts with a fun game and warm-up activities. The group then looks at the bible together, understanding the messages deeper and for our youths to develop further on their faith.
Feeling Connected with the Sunday Service
Subjects and messages in the lessons are aligned with those delivered in the Sunday service whenever possible. This way, we created an opportunity for the youths and their parents to discuss and exchange thoughts at home.
We also work on a creative activity together during the session. Sometime a handicraft piece across a few weeks for display in the main sanctuary, for example wreaths for harvest and Christmas, ornaments and other handicrafts. Recently the Youth Group created the Advent wreath for the Advent Sunday services in December and on Christmas Day. The youths contributed to the Sunday service in special occasions, such as delivering a bible reading Christmas and Easter.
Strengthening the Bonding with God
& Each Other
Apart from joining activities within the Church, we encourage the youths to join Reading-wide evening youth activities once every few months, such as Reading Youth Night organised by All Nations Christian Centre. Occasionally, we have a fun time out on Sunday mornings, some specially for the youths and some together with the Primary Sunday school Group and their parents.
Growing Our Faith Together
We find that preparing lessons and meeting with the youths encourages our own faith. The youths are brilliant and open in sharing their thoughts, which always brought about insightful discussions for everyone in the room.
As our youth group expands, our Sunday school youth teaching group expanded together with more joining the leading or the assisting roles. We welcome anyone who is keen to lead and teach these youngsters to reach out to us.
